YouTube Opens Ad Sales
YouTube, popular online video sharing site introduced overlay advertising into its video clips. The ad rates charged to advertisers were calculated on a CPM cost-per-thousand basis. Certain content producers are also free to sell ads on their YouTube channel at market rates. This way producers of content which reach a more desirable audience can charge more.
Google ads on Yahoo
Google and Yahoo announced a two week experiment to show Google ads on Yahoo searches in US. By partnering with Google, Yahoo is trying to signal it has other options besides succumbing to Microsoft. Yahoo also has discussed deals with MySpace.com and AOL. Yahoo insists it’s worth more than the initial bid of $44.6 billion, or $31 per share, that Microsoft made more than two months ago.
A tool to track refugees by Google
Google launched a new feature on its popular mapping software Google Earth which plots refugee movements worldwide. Users can download Google Earth software to see satellite images of refugee hot spots such as Darfur, Iraq,Colombia and Sri Lanka. According to Google more than 350 million people have already downloaded Google Earth.
Soyuz takes South Korea’s first Astronaut
So-Yeon Yi, a 29-year-old female engineer, is flying under a commercial agreement between the Russian space agency and South Korea’s ministry of science and technology. Yi will spend nine days aboard the space station and return to Earth on April 19. She is the youngest woman to ever launch into space.
Changing face of Canada
According to a new census data released by Statistics Canada, visible minorities now comprise more than 16 per cent of the total population of Canada. South Asians, (India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka), now slightly outnumber the Chinese, who were identified as the top visible minority group in 2001. Visible minorities have surpassed the five million mark this year. According to Employment Equity Act, Canada, visible minorities are defined as persons other than Aboriginal peoples who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in color.

Facebook announced that they are rolling out Facebook chat this week. This new feature will be an exciting upgrade to the site. It also appears to be a move to try to keep people engaged on the Facebook site for a longer duration.
Apple Surpasses Walmart
According to an NPD MusicWatch Survey, Apple surpasses Walmart to become the number 1 music retailer. Apple’s iTunes Store leads with 19 percent market share, Walmart comes to second with 15 percent,BestBuy and Amazon and in third and fourth places.
Melting Ice sheets can cause earth quake
A new study showed that earthquakes are “suppressed in presence of the ice and promoted during melting of the ice”. As ice sheets melt, they can release pent-up energy and trigger massive earthquakes. Researchers say that Global Warming may already be triggering such earthquakes and may cause more in the future as ice continues to melt worldwide.
Pizza.com sold for $2.6m
Domain name Pizza.com has been sold for $2.6m. Chris Clark registered the internet domain name ‘pizza.com’ in 1994 for just $20. He decided to sell it after hearing that another domain - Vodka.com - was sold for $3m in 2006
‘World’s first’ digital noise cancellation HeadPhones
Sony claims to have released the world’s first pair of digital noise-canceling headphones. The innovative MDR-NC500D headphones use digital technology to more accurately reduce stress-inducing noise from planes, trains and buses. The Headphones are capable of 99% reduction of noise at 160 Hz. It has an internal Lithium-ion battery which can last for up to 16 hours. They are available online now for $400.
Voting for Clinton Evokes Feelings of Insecurity,New Study
According to new study by,Emotion Mining, a Massachusetts public policy and market research firm shows that voting for Hillary Clinton makes people feel more “insecure” than they are willing to admit. The firm’s patented web-based research system reveals that while respondents to any question tend to consciously report and say one thing,they are most often subconsciously feeling something else.
Wikipedia allowed in China
Chinese authorities have lifted a block on the English-language version of online encyclopedia Wikipedia. Still politically sensitive topics such as Tibet and Tiananmen Square are not allowed to appear. Wikipedia, which is written collaboratively by volunteers, has more than 2 million articles in English.
