The nausea and vomiting are experienced in early pregnancy, and it is a good sign of a healthy pregnancy. It occurs due to a tug of war between the mom and the embryo over the body’s resources. But the morning sickness does not seem to occur in other mammals. Therefore, researchers suggest that it is actually triggered in specific circumstances such as:
- the sight, smell and the taste of meats or vegetables ( may contain food-borne microbes or chemicals that induce birth-defects)
- alcohol and cigarette smoke.
So basically the morning sickness serves a useful function, which protects mothers and embryos from dangerous environmental factors.
