The gas price is going up and commuting is questionable, it’s time to get to know how hybrid cars work. With automobile gasoline engines the gas consumption is very high, and these engines are designed for peak power demands. So, you can imagine how driving around the city, and waiting at red lights feel like.
But hybrids use a battery-powered electric motor in low-power situations, and uses a gas engine in high-power situations. It switches back and forth automatically according to the power demand. The gas engine is switched off at red lights. The battery will be recharged by the gas engine. When you use your brakes the generators attached to the brakes turns the braking momentum into electricity for battery charging, which is normally lost as heat. You not only save some money, but also protect the environment.
