India launches nuclear submarine
India has launched its first indigenously built nuclear-powered submarine capable of firing ballistic missiles. The submarine, once in service, will give the country the capability to fire nuclear weapons from sea besides land and air. India plans to build a fleet of five nuclear-powered submarines. It is certainly a breakthrough to the Indian Navy. India is now proud of joining the elite club of countries that have such sophisticated nuclear capable vessels. But with U.S already having 74 such fully operational vessels, China having 10 and India needing another two years to have Arihant fully operational, Is India still lagging?
