Isolationism has been employed by a few nations over the past years. The reason why this idealism is adapted vary from nation to nation. One reason is to preserve deep seated culture to avoid foreign influences. This is very important for cultures who wish to preserve and uphold their own beliefs and traditions. It is often interpreted as a sign of freedom and liberty. Historically speaking, nations who chose to adhere to this idealism experienced varying degrees of set-backs in terms of growth and progress. Although they were successful in maintaining national identity, the strict confinement have affected the constituents’ potential for greater personal achievements. Ultimately, exacting times have compelled these nations to welcome others.
There are volunteering opportunities that allow you to assist others as well as help you gain knowledge and skills for a possible career. Volunteering as an ESL teacher aide is one of them. Although you would initially seek this opportunity to gain teaching experience, the act of being involved with the kids and helping them learn is something that will grow on you. Whether you consign a few days of your time or longer, the fact remains that it is a huge commitment. If you decide to volunteer, make sure that it is a wholehearted decision because teaching requires a lot of love and patience. Your personal decision is crucial because ESL kids are going through a lot of struggling in their learning lessons, which means they would need a lot of understanding. Mentoring programs, such as ESL volunteering programs, are great ways to get involved and realize your full capacity to feel compassion towards others.
Justice is not always served. My husband and I put up a band rehearsal studio in our hometown. We invested a lot of hard-earned money buying audio equipment and music instruments. We even put our collection of guitars there. A few weeks later, we came to an empty studio. Apparently, robbers came the night before and took our little treasures away. We reported the incident to the police and enlisted the help of our musician friends to be on the watch. One day, my husband chanced upon an ad for a guitar which happened to be one of our missing guitars. We contacted the person right away and informed the police. Sadly, we just recovered one of the guitars and the police were unwilling to help us further. The reason? We have no idea. The officers told us pursuing the case is not worh it. My husband became afraid that we might earn the ire of the police if we insist; or if we do the pursuing ourselves, we might uncover a group of gangsters. Fearing for the safety of our family, we just let it go.
Over the years, living things have lived, died and eventuality become extinct. Those who survived drastic climate changes and natural disasters continued to live but as different species died, the remaining ones adapt, innovate and influence things around them to serve their purpose— to continue to exist and live on. This is part of natural evolution. However, advances in science and technology has affected the natural flow of survival especially for humans. People are living longer now and in better condition because of medicinal breakthroughs, surgery and implants. Humans will probably hang about even when most species go instinct. So, is this still evolution? I believe it is. Undoubtedly, man‚Äôs evolution is, in a way, artificial or manipulated but it remains the most fascinating among living things.
The rise of inflation rate is always bad news especially to salaried indviduals. If the cost of products and services increases, the value of money likewise decreases because it could not buy as much as it used to. Regular employees particularly suffer the brunt of it. They have to let go of eating out and other activities that entail additional expense. More often than not, even the budget for food as well as other essential things is lessened. It is unfortunate that promotions and salary inflation raises don’t happen as often as price increases, so people are compelled to make do with what they have. When it is absolutely necessary, some people even acquire loans to augment their income. Clearly, there are so many things people have to put up with in because of inflation.
Democracy promises freedom and equality. Unfortunately, its application in the real world can be sad and disappointing. For one, freedom is sometimes abused and misused by some people. Although everyone can speak freely, individual opinions might not serve the best interests of others and could cause disharmony and pain. Some people may also have self-serving interests as well as malicious intents behind their expressed views and opinions. democracy can likewise slow down work or impede good projects because of bureaucratic procedures. This can result to delays and production loss. All in all, I guess democracy has its merits as a concept but its very idea can also be exploited to serve less than noble intentions.(Continue reading)
I thought Islam was very different from my belief system until I became friends with a Muslim. Sara was my roommate in college. At first, her manner of dressing made her look remote and different to me, but a chance conversation about going to the mall’s sale day changed all that. We went together and found out that we liked the same colors and styles of clothes. We even bought the same accessories. After a while, we agreed to eat dinner together. I learned that there were certain food she couldn’t eat because of her religion, so we agreed to eat in the foodcourt where there were a lot of food choices. It was a such happy time and I discovered that Sara is not so different after all.(Continue reading)

Although I enjoyed my pregnancy, it was not too thrilling to have that yeast infection at one point. I caught a bad cough and cold when I was pregnant and I was in the middle of a work project. I consulted my gynecologist and she prescribed an antibiotic because she observed that my coughing fits were getting worse. The coughing stopped but since antibiotics make pregnant women more prone to yeast infection, I got a yeast infection in return. I began to experience one of the most uncomfortable conditions of my life. Had I known taking antibiotics would result to that, I would have exhausted other means to get rid of my cough and colds. I blamed my gynecologist a bit but what’s done was done so I just tried my best to bear with it until I shook the infection off my system.
