June 30 was the last day you could get Windows XP. Because of compatibility issues, uncertainty about Vista stability/ease of use, and hardware requirements there are many people who don’t want to go for Vista. If you are ready to pay up to $50 to downgrade to XP,Dell is ready to sell computers with Windows XP. This may well be the first time an older operating system is being sold as a bonus package. But Microsoft promised that Vista SP1 release solves many issues reported on Vista such as low battery life in Laptops.

Apple SSD-based MacBook Air price drops
Apple has slashed price on the MacBook Air SSD version by $500. The 13-inch 1.8GHz MacBook Air with SSD now starts at $2,598. The super slim 13-inch 1.8GHz MacBook Air with a 64GB Solid State Drive was initially listed for $3098. Market research shows that Apple notebook sales are up by 61% from the first quarter of 2007 to the first quarter of 2008.

The World’s First Telephone Book
The world’s first telephone book has just found in Connecticut. It was 20-page directory and issued in November of 1878. The phone book contained information useful to 391 subscribers within the Connecticut. It says that “Should you wish to speak to another subscriber you should commence the conversation by saying, ‘Hulloa!”.
It also says that “Never take the telephone off the hook unless you wish to use it”. When you are talking to other subscriber, say “That is all”, and the person on the other end should say “O.K.”, only then you can hang up. The book also tells the users “lower lip and jaw free.” Users are warned not to use the phone for more than 3 mins at a time and no more than 2 times an hour without getting the permission from the main office.

MySpace Global Traffic Falls behind Facebook
comScore’s May numbers shows that Facebook’s global traffic grows past MySpace. Facebook, according to ComScore, attracted 123.9 million unique visitors in the month of May, beating MySpace’s 114.6, and 50.6 billion page views compared to MySpace’s 45.4 billion. But in US MySpace remains far ahead of Facebook with 73.7 million unique visitors versus Facebook’s 35.6 million US visitors. Even though MySpace and Facebook are the main players in the social networking market, there are many other social networks with big followings in different regions of the globe that pose local competition. Orkut, owned by Google, has a lock on Brazil and also eats up a big portion of the market in India. Hi5 is big in Latin America. Facebook recently took out a $100 million loan to keep up with its phenomenal growth.
Firefox 3 Downloads beats expectation.
Mozilla has declared victory after its Firefox 3 downloads exceeding its initial goal of 5 million downloads. The servers logged over 8 million downloads during the 24-hour download day. At their busiest the servers were handling more than 9,000 downloads per minute. Until yesterday, Firefox had been downloaded more than 10 million times. Firefox is an open source web browser well known amongst tech savvy users. Functionality of this amazing browser can be extended by Firefox plugins. Firefox is proved to be faster and more secure than Internet Explorer.

Marriage Of Brain Science And The Internet
Researchers at Keio University have developed the world’s first demonstration experiment to help a disabled person to to chat and stroll through the virtual world by using brainwave. This technology will help motion-impaired people to communicate with others. This technology is a “marriage of brain science and the Internet”, and it opens an opportunity to meet with people and have chat in the virtual world.
The tech. uses electrodes attached to the scalp, and a computer detects brainwaves from the cortex when the subject slightly moves fingers, and it moves the avatar accordingly.
Toyota Yaris : Green Car of the year
Environmental Transport Association (ETA), which is currently running the 2008 Green Transport Week in the UK, has named the Yaris the 2008 Green Car of the Year. Honda FCX Clarity is a zero emission sedan, which runs on hydrogen and electricity, emits only water and none of the noxious fumes believed to induce global warming. Limited number of cars will be leased to Southern Californians, which costs $600/month on a three year lease. Many automobile manufacturers have already begun developing hydrogen powered cars, BMW Hydrogen 7,Daimler AG — F-Cell,Focus FCV and GM HydroGen3 are some of them. But the main issue is the lack of hydrogen fuel stations. National Hydrogen Association developed a hydrogen fueling station database, this database contains only US and Canadian stations. Laptops thinner than Mac book Air
HP unveiled its entry in the growing list of slim laptops, the half-inch thick Voodoo Envy 133. The Envy, weighs less than three-and-half pounds and thinner than Apple’s Apple MacBook Air. Introduced in Berlin, Germany, the thin laptop is among the first PCs HP is creating using the Voodoo brand. The Envy is expected to be available during the summer, starting at about $2,099. HP(Hewlett Packard) is the world’s largest PC maker. World’s Number 2 PC maker Dell, also announced plans to produce slimline laptops and desktop computers.
