telecommunicationTelecommunication technology is being used to delivery health care services to patients. Using telehealth means that  patients are selected to receive follow-up by telephone or videophone after hospitalization. Healthcare worker can  interact with the patients regularly and can provide a sense of security. Patients can discuss their concerns on a frequent basis.

Researcher from University of Missouri found that patients who received a telehealth intervention delayed hospital re-admission rates compared to patients who received traditional care.

Cat’s Urine And Machoism In Rats

RatResearcher had  expected that the smell of a cat would reduce the sexual drive in rats and the scared mice aren’t sexy mice. But now they have found that cats could help mice get lucky in love.

According to a new study cat’s urine not only scare mice away, but it also seems to act like an aphrodisiac (agent that arouses sexual desire) for the rats. The smell make male mice more macho and attract females.

The World Health May Benefit From A Computer Game

folditResearchers at the University of Washington are trying to make medical discoveries, even finding a cure for HIV by a new game called Foldit. This  game may be the key for biological mysteries  ranging from vaccine to Alzheimer. The free program is  available at http://fold.it/.

Foldit is the first protein-folding project which capitalizes on people’s natural 3-D problem-solving skills. Researchers are trying to use the brain power of people all around the world to advance biomedical research and asking volunteers to participate in this study. Researchers are unsure about the result.

Cell phone Google has announced a technology that provides brand images on mobile phones. The technology will provide some sort of image advertisement that has been scaled to fit on the screen of a mobile phone,based on a user’s query. The service is  available in 13 countries (Australia, China, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Russia, Spain, the UK, and the United States).

Doomsday Is 2012

doomsdayAs we all know, there are many spiritual leaders and believers had predicted end of the world, dating back to at least 2800 B.C. They have all been wrong for thousands of years, but they are still trying to predict the doomsday.

These believers solely trust that they have known the Earth- shaking secret that should be informed to others. We all are familiar with the dozens of predictions that the world would end in 2000, but it’s been 8 years and nothing happened so far.

The latest prediction says that the world is going to end in 2012 . It either will bring a new age of global spiritual awakening, or the end of the world. Or maybe something in between.

Texas Sinkhole Keeps Growing

In southeast Texas in the small town of Daisetta, a giant sinkhole has continued to grow which swallowed up oil field equipment, poles and a few vehicles - including the tractor and cab of an 18-wheeler and a farm tractor. Officials are taking steps to try to prevent any disaster connected with the growing sinkhole. The sinkhole may have been a result of the land lying on top of a salt brine where oil and natural gas are naturally stored in the earth’s surface.

Breast Cancer May Be Reduced By Aspirin

breast cancerAccording to the  journal Breast Cancer Research by BioMed Central, taking aspirin on a daily basis may lower the risk of a particular type of breast cancer in women. The breast cancers are estrogen receptor-positive (ER+). Estrogen helps the cancer cells grow, so drugs that block the action of estrogen are often used to treat ER+ cancer. In this particular study, aspirin use was linked to a small reduction in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancers.

60 percent of black children can’t swim

SwimmingAccording to a first-of-its-kind survey, 58 percent of African-American children can’t swim, almost twice the figure for white children. The study also found that 31 percent of the white respondents could not swim safely. Among black children, the study found that girls overall had weaker swimming skills than boys and were less comfortable at pools. Black children drown at a rate almost three times the overall rate.

According to a research done by Julia Carter and her colleagues from University of Bristol, Starlings keep away from their food dish if a human is looking at it. When the person is just as close, but if their eyes are turned away, the Starlings started feeding earlier and consumed more food.
