The reported Trojan connects to a remote server over the internet and allows a malicious user to perform various tasks on the machine. The Trojan was discovered by anti-virus maker Intego. The firm also said the Trojan is being distributed through P2P (peer to peer) networks, specifically illegally produced copies of Apple’s iWork software may contains the malicious code. Trojan is a virus which is contained inside apparently harmless programming or data in such a way that it can get control, exactly like a “Trojan Horse” in Greek mythology. To protect yourself from the infection,simply don’t download anything from P2P, atleast iWork.
A virus known as Conficker, Downadup, or Kido spreads through removal media like USB memory sticks and networks posing a growing threat to Windows users. Approximately, 3.5 millions machines have been infected by the worm so far. Once executed, the virus disables a number of system services and then connects to a malicious server, where it downloads additional malware to install on the infected computer. Samsung says its XP version of Frame Manager 1.08 software contains the virus W32.Sality.AE. The virus reaches the computer when the Frame Manager is installed on a PC. Security experts warned computer users not to use Microsoft’s Internet Explorer until a security flaw in the browser is fixed. The security flow in the browser could be exploited by criminals to take control of computers and steal passwords. Microsoft says it has detected attacks against IE 7.0 but said the “vulnerability” was present in all versions of the browser. Internet Explorer is used by around 70% of the internet users. The new virus dubbed “Koobface”, can gain access to a Facebook user’s friends network and send out a message with an enticing title. The message contains hyper links and when clicked it asks the user to update the Flash Player. They are then prompted to download or open the file flash_player.exe, a new Koobface variant. Norton anti virus detected the downloaded file as virus, but some of the widely used anti virus software failed to detect the threat.

IT security and control firm Sophos has warned users of Facebook to exercise care, following an attempt by hackers to infect computers by spreading messages containing malicious links on the popular social networking website. The recent attack comes in the form of Wall Messages left on Facebook users’ to view a video, but clicking on the link takes users to a site which urges them to download a file to watch the movie. Sophos says it detects the executable file as the Troj/Dloadr-BPL Trojan horse, which in turn downloads further malicious code (detected as Troj/Agent-HJX), and displays an innocent image of a court jester sticking his tongue out.
