According to research firm IDC, Apple has dropped from the No. 4 purveyor of laptops in the U.S. last year to No. 5 this spring. The firm estimates that Apple has shipped 12.5 percent fewer laptops than the same time last year, even as it maintained its 7.6 percent market share. Leapfrogging Apple to take the No. 4 spot is Toshiba, now estimated to be shipping 7.7 percent of all laptops in the U.S., thanks to system such as the Mini NB205 Netbook. IDG estimates that Dell remains No. 1, with 26.3 percent of the market, closely followed by HP, with Acer showing strong year-over-year growth to hit 12.6 percent of the American market. Apple, has issued what some might call a “common sense” warning: a support document that warns users not to keep the iPhone in an environment where temperatures can exceed 113 degrees Fahrenheit, including parked cars. But Apple also warns that CPU-intensive applications, such playing music or using the GPS while in direct sunlight may also overheat the iPhone. Apple also says that the iPhone 3G and 3GS should not be stored where the temperature can fall under -4 degrees Fahrenheit, or used in less in temperatures under 0 degrees F. News reports say U.S. trade regulators are examining links between Apple Inc. and Google Inc. because they share some board members. Apple has been ordered to pay $19 million to Opti Inc., a technology company based up the road in Palo Alto, for patent infringement. The verdict came out of Patent Lawsuit Valley (also known as the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in Marshall) late Thursday, where a jury found that Apple had “willfully” infringed on Opti’s patent for “Predictive snooping.” Full Story : Arstechnica.com……

Apple today introduced the new iPod shuffle, the world’s smallest music player at nearly half of the size of the previous model. The device has a new feature called VocieOver which enables iPod shuffle to speak your song titles, artists and playlist names. iPod shuffle can speak 14 languages including English, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. iPod shuffle is now shipping and comes in silver or black for a suggested price of $79 (US).
Apple today announced the public beta of Safari® 4 web browser. Apple claims that the Nitro engine in Safari 4 runs JavaScript 4.2 times faster than Safari 3. According to Apple the technology which the Safari 4 is built on executes JavaScript up to 30 times faster than Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 7. Google released its browser Chrome last year.

The reported Trojan connects to a remote server over the internet and allows a malicious user to perform various tasks on the machine. The Trojan was discovered by anti-virus maker Intego. The firm also said the Trojan is being distributed through P2P (peer to peer) networks, specifically illegally produced copies of Apple’s iWork software may contains the malicious code. Trojan is a virus which is contained inside apparently harmless programming or data in such a way that it can get control, exactly like a “Trojan Horse” in Greek mythology. To protect yourself from the infection,simply don’t download anything from P2P, atleast iWork.

A new battery technology is revealed by Apple today, which Apple claims would improve 17″ MacBook Pro’s battery life by 60%. The new battery can last up to 8 hours on a charge. Apple uses a chip inside the battery that communicates with each cell to make adjustments to the current for each cell. The battery last three times longer than the industry standard. Apple also makes the recycling of the batteries easier by the take-back program.
