Apple Issues Safety Alert for Power Adapter.

iphone usb adapterApple on Friday announced the Ultra compact USB Power Adapter Exchange Program. Apple says under certain conditions the new ultra compact Apple USB power adapter’s metal prongs can break off and remain in a power outlet, creating the risk of electric shock. Apple recommends users who are using the ultra compact adapter that came with their iPhone 3G to stop using them immediately until they receive a new, redesigned adapter.

Mac’s Market Share Continues to Grow

Mac BookMac’s user base is growing in a rapid phase,thanks to iPod’s popularity. More and more personal users and small business community are moving to Apple’s Mac computers from Windows PC. Analysts believe Mac’s growing popularity is partly due to a “halo effect,” created by Apple’s iPod. Apple had a 10.4 home market share at the end of the first quarter of this year, compared to 7.5 percent for the first quarter of 2007, and 5.4 percent for the first quarter of 2006. Release of Microsoft’s new operating system Windows Vista also helped Mac to furthered its success.

Microsot Resosponds to Mac ad, enlists Seinfeld

Get a MacThe “Get a Mac” campaign may one of the reasons behind Apple’s rising market share in computer industry. Now Microsoft is fighting back with its own ad campaign. Seinfeld will be one of the key celebrity pitchmen in the $300 million ad campaign which is  going to be launched soon. The new ad effort is expected to use some variation of the slogan “Windows, Not Walls.” But its doubtful that $300 million is sufficient to reverse the negative public perception of Windows Vista.

iPod a Fire Risk Warns Japan

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan warned consumers of Apple’s iPod Nano fire hazard. The ministry said it had received three reports of minor fires caused by overheating devices. The Ministry had begun an investigation into the incidents. The iPod Nano uses a rechargeable lithium ion battery. Lithium ion battery has been known to overheat on rare occasions in personal computers and mobile phones. A particular care is needed when charging iPods according to the statement by the ministry.

First Apple Store in China.

AppleApple opened its first store in China. The new store is located in Beijing’s newest Village at Sanlitun. The store carries the same design as Apple’s other retail stores but with a multilingual Genius bar. iPhone is not available in China at this point. This will be their 219th retail store worldwide.

Canadian’s complained about Ruined iPhone

iPhone 3gAround 60 000 people signed a petition in Canada to  bring down the prices of the data plan on the Apple iPhone 3G offered by Rogers Wireless. David McGuinty, a member of parliament also spoke up and also asked for support of C-555 - the Get Connected Fairly Act. Rogers offer a third fewer minutes and limited data compared to AT&T, US service provider for iPhone. The petition and the comments of the disappointed customers can be found at ruinediphone.com.  Its believed that Apple responded to customer complaints by limiting the iPhone shipment to Rogers.

Apple SSD-based MacBook Air price drops

Apple has slashed price on the MacBook Air SSD version by $500. The 13-inch 1.8GHz MacBook Air with SSD now starts at $2,598. The super slim 13-inch 1.8GHz MacBook Air with a 64GB Solid State Drive was initially listed for $3098. Market research shows that Apple notebook sales are up by 61% from the first quarter of 2007 to the first quarter of 2008.

iPod Nano emits sparks

iPod Nano In Japan, an iPod Nano shoots out sparks when being plugged into a charger. The incident will be investigated by the Japan Trade Ministry. Apple has already claimed that they are looking into the cause of it and whether or not there have been any similar cases that may warrant a recall.
