Twitter, known for celebrity gossip, drunken messages and nonstandard English, is now also home to Queen Elizabeth II. The British monarchy started what it called a ‚ÄúRoyal Twitter‚Äù account that will be run by the Web teams at royal residences Buckingham Palace and Clarence House, according to its Web site today. By 12:10 p.m. New York time, the Twitter account had more than 2,000 followers. According to research conducted for Dell on the recycling habits of 5,000 consumers across the UK (1,000 respondents), France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, Germans are proving the savviest (80 per cent regularly recycle electronics). Consumer confusion around the recycling options available for old electronics has led to 50 per cent of UK consumers failing to correctly recycle old technology. BRITAIN’S defence ministry was so alarmed by reports of a UFO sighting nearly 20 years ago, it took the unusual step of briefing ministers, according to secret files released today. The MoD was handed negatives of photographs - showing a large diamond-shaped object hanging in mid-air for around 10 minutes before ascending upwards at high speed - taken on August 4, 1990, by two members of the public. It is the British-made L115A3 Long Range Rifle which, in recent weeks, has killed scores of enemy fighters in Afghanistan. In a new initiative on the front line, the Army is using sniper platoons to target the Taliban and ‘The Long’, as the snipers call it, can take out insurgents from a mile away. Unveiled earlier this year the L115A3 rifle, part of the Sniper System Improvement Programme (SSIP), is a larger calibre weapon which provides state-of-the-art telescopic day and night all-weather sights, increasing a sniper’s effective range considerably.
