Another Study Links Fluoride to Bone Cancer

water-tapBlood fluoride levels were significantly higher in patients with osteosarcoma than in control groups, according to research published in Biological Trace Element Research (April 2009). Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, occurs mostly in children and young adults. This reinforces a 2006 published Harvard study by Bassin showing a link between water fluoridation and osteosarcoma in young boys. Full Story : FederalJack.com…

Fluoride Linked to Bone Cancer

water-tapBlood fluoride levels were significantly higher in patients with osteosarcoma than in control groups, according to research published in Biological Trace Element Research (April 2009). Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, occurs mostly in children and young adults. Sandhu and colleagues measured serum fluoride levels in three equal groups of age-matched and sex-matched patients. “Mean serum fluoride concentration was found to be significantly higher in patients with osteosarcoma as compared to the other two groups,” write Sandhu’s team. Water fluoridation is the controlled addition of fluoride to a public water supply to reduce tooth decay. Full Story : Pitchengine.com….

Treatment that zaps Prostate Cancer cells developed by scientists

The breakthrough by scientists at Leicester University centres on tiny particles capable of seeking out and destroying prostate cancer cells. The treatment would allow doctors to treat the cancer at the same time as spotting it. It could also allow earlier diagnosis, raising the chances of survival and cutting the number of distressing side-effects. Full Story : Dailymail….

Fiddling with biological clock suppresses cancer

geneA circadian rhythm is how a body maintains the 24 hour cycle of sleep and wakefulness—it is literally our biological clock. A new paper, published this week in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, explains that tinkering with a cancer cell’s circadian rhythm makes it more susceptible to chemotherapy and thus easier to eradicate. Moisturizers Can Cause Skin Cancer!

MoisturizersAccording to a new study by researchers at Rutgers University in New Jersey, several commonly used skin creams may cause skin tumors. Dr. Allan Conney and colleagues stumbled across the findings after they exposed hairless mice to ultraviolet radiation to mimic sun exposure. Afterward, they applied four popular moisturizers to the mice. They found all four moisturizers caused tumors to grow on the mice. However, this study does not confirm that people using moisturizers are exposed to the same risks as mice were.

Allow Producers to Irradiate Your Vegetables?

vegetablesThe Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved food producers to irradiate vegetables such as spinach and iceberg lettuce to increase the shelf life and also to limit the growth of pathogens especially Salmonella and E. coli.

Although there are many other effective ways available,  Irradiation is considered to be safe and effective by FDA. But this may contaminate the mass distribution of food. The irradiation is a Band-Aid solution to keep a broken system in place, but not an ultimate solution. Some consumer groups are worried that irradiated vegetables are inferior, contaminated and unhealthy. But studies done by the FDA showed no relationship between radiation and long-term health risks such as cancer.

Beware Of The Summer: 5 Things About Skin Cancer

John MccainThe presidential candidate John McCain had a skin spot, and removed from his face on July 28th, 2008. He wanted to share different message to Americans. Here are few important information that you need about skin cancer. Melanoma is deadly and more than 1 million people are diagnosed for skin cancer each year, and 8,000 U.S. residents die each year. But Melanoma is preventable. Exposure to the sun causes 90% of all skin cancers. Limiting mid-day exposure or covering up is the best way to avoid it.

Sunscreen is not a cure, since it only protects against UVB not against UVA. Men are more likely to work outside and have the highest exposure to the sun’s harmful rays than women. Tanning is not healthy, because UV rays fry inner layers of the skin, which causes the body to release melanin pigment to darken the outer layers as a protective measure.

Genome Changes With Age

genome.jpgHuman genomes can change throughout a person’s lifespan. It’s influenced by environmental or nutritional factors. This change may explain the reasons for different deadly illnesses such as cancer which comes with age. Researchers at Johns Hopkins University found epigenetic marks on a DNA sequence which modify over the course of one’s life. The extent of such changes is similar among family members. The changes in the genomic structure can occur as a result of dietary and other environmental exposure. Epigenetics may play a role in diseases like diabetes, autism and cancer.

Breast Cancer May Be Reduced By Aspirin

breast cancerAccording to the  journal Breast Cancer Research by BioMed Central, taking aspirin on a daily basis may lower the risk of a particular type of breast cancer in women. The breast cancers are estrogen receptor-positive (ER+). Estrogen helps the cancer cells grow, so drugs that block the action of estrogen are often used to treat ER+ cancer. In this particular study, aspirin use was linked to a small reduction in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancers.
