France moves to bring in carbon tax by 2011

EmissionsThe French government on Wednesday kickstarted plans for a so-called carbon tax on energy-hungry products, to be rolled out by 2011 as part of France’s efforts to slash global warming emissions. Environment Minister Jean-Louis Borloo unveiled a white paper on the new Climate-Energy Contribution, to be posted online for public comment before an experts’ panel gathers on July 2-3 to hammer out the details. New research study reveals origin of volcano’s carbon-based lavas

US carbon-tracking satellite crashes

carbon observatory satelliteNASA’s $278-million Orbiting Carbon Observatory failed to reach orbit and plunged into the southern Pacific Ocean near Antarctica. The satellite was launched aboard an unmanned Taurus rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base. The satellite had been designed to examine how carbon dioxide is cycled through the planet.

Now we can associate different colors for the states than blue and red.

Mobile App to Calculate Carbon Footprint.

Carbon footprintCarbon Diem, a smartphone app which can calculate a person’s carbon footprint by monitoring the movement by using phone’s GPS. The software determines the mode of transportation from the GPS data and then calculate the impact on environment. The software proved to be 100% accurate when working out or when people were on airplanes or trains. But its only 65-75% accurate at guessing when people travel on buses. Carbon footprint is a measure of the impact that someone‚Äôs activities will have on the environment, measured in units of carbon dioxide produced. Reducing carbon footprint is beneficial to the environment. This kind of efforts will definitely help to reduce these footprints.
