Oceans Rising Faster Than UN Forecast, Scientists Say

antarcticPolar ice caps are melting faster and oceans are rising more than the United Nations projected just two years ago, 10 universities said in a report suggesting that climate change has been underestimated. Global sea levels will climb a meter (39 inches) by 2100, 69 percent more than the most dire forecast made in 2007 by the UN’s climate panel, according to the study released today in Brussels. Climate Change Causes 300,000 Deaths a Year, Controversial Study Claims

indian-floodvictims300,000 people across the world die every year as a result of global warming, according to a new report by the Global Humanitarian Forum. Human-influenced climate change is elevating the global death rates from illnesses including malaria, malnutrition and heat-related ailments, mostly by worsening flooding and droughts. The report said that the lives of 325 million people were being seriously affected by global warming and that the number will double by 2030. West “Responsible” For Third of China’s CO2 Emissions

EmissionsAbout 9% of total Chinese emissions are the result of manufacturing goods for the US, while 6% come from producing goods for Europe, a new report finds. The new research shows that about a third of all Chinese carbon emissions between 2002 and 2005 — or half of its rise over that period — were the result of producing goods for export. In addition to green house gas emissions China destructs vast swathes of forest, which provide wood for US-bound furniture.

Bangladesh is growing.

BangladeshSouth Asian nation Bangladesh’s land mass is growing with a rate of 20 Square Kilometers per year. With this rate of landmass growth the country will have additional 1000 Square Kilometers of land by 2060. The growth is caused by the deposit of sediments washed down by Ganges, Brahmaputra and numerous other rivers. But ironically this landmass may be swallowed up by the increasing sea levels caused by climate change. There are more than 20 countries in the world that have area less than 1000 Square Kilometers.
