India’s new government, with Manmohan Singh as prime minister, has taken the oath of office in the capital, Delhi. Mr Singh is taking charge for a second time, only the second PM after Jawaharlal Nehru to be returned to power following a full five-year term. In an answer to questions about her foreign policy experience US vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s aides listed talks with Britain’s ambassador to Washington, which never actually took place. British embassy officials contacted the McCain-Palin campaign to inform them of the discrepancy. She has been ridiculed for the few interviews she has granted, the most notable one is citing Alaska’s proximity to Canada and Russia as giving her foreign policy experience.
