New poll: Obama is up, Congress way down

obamaPresident Obama has more than double the approval ratings of Democratic congressional leaders, and triple the positives of the Republican Party, according to a new National Research 2000 poll. The poll was taken during a week when Obama made his most important appointment to date, the nomination of U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court. It found 67 percent of Americans with a favorable opinion of Obama with just 29 percent in the unfavorable category, a figure that has remained largely unchanged for weeks. Michael Moore Releases Slacker Uprising Movie Free

Michael Moore has released his movie Slacker Uprising free streaming for US and Canadian residents. “This is being done entirely as a gift to my fans. The only return any of us are hoping for is the largest turnout of young voters ever at the polls in November.” ,says Michael Moore. “Slacker Uprising” chronicles the 62-city tour he did leading up to the 2004 election. For those who don’t download there is a DVD available for $9.95. In his blog Moore says its one of his contributions to help get out the vote November 4th and he gives permission to not only download it, but also to email it, burn it, and share it with anyone and everyone (in the U.S. and Canada only). His last movie “Sicko” brought in $24.5 million domestically.

Walmart Advocating Against Obama?

WalmartWal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, is being accused of violating federal election laws by urging its employees into voting against Barack Obama. Store and Department Mangers are asked to attend mandatory meetings where they are told that a vote for Democrat Barack Obama would be a vote for unions. The AFL-CIO and three other labor-rights groups have asked the Federal Election Commission to investigate whether Wal-Mart Stores Inc. unlawfully pressured employees to vote against Democrats. Wal-Mart,employs 1.4 million workers. It has rigorously resisted being unionized and opposes the bill. Last month, the Wall Street Journal first revealed the details of this accusation. Barack Obama supports a bill in Congress that proponents say would make it easier for workers to organize.

Reporters Violently Manhandled and Arrested in Republic Convention

Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman and producers Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole Salazar were violently manhandled by law enforcement officers and arrested. Goodman was arrested while questioning police about the unlawful detention of Kouddous and Salazar who were arrested while they carried out their journalistic duties in covering street demonstrations at the Republican National Convention.

ObamaAccording to Nielsen Media Research, more people watched obama speak from a packed stadium in Denver on 28th,August than watched the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing, the final “American Idol” or the Academy Awards this year. Barack Obama’s audience for his acceptance speech likely topped 40 million people. That was a more popular television event than any other political convention in history. Through four days, the Democratic convention was seen in an average of 22.5 million households.
