200 Harvard Medical School STUDENTS are confronting the administration demanding an end to pharmaceutical industry influence in the classroom. The revolt began when a first year medical student “grew wary” when a professor promoted cholesterol drugs and “seemed to belittle a student who asked about side effects.” He later discovered that the professor, a full-time Harvard Medical faculty member, was a paid consultant to 10 drug companies, including manufacturers of cholesterol drugs. According to a research, Tuberculosis is resistant to many current treatments, but now, it can be overcome with aggressive therapy. TB is associated with high rates of mortality and it is responsible for at least 7% of cases of the infection worldwide. Researchers have proved that the cure is possible with a combination of at least 5 drugs. MDR TB is a Multi-drug resistant TB, and it is resistant to the commonly used treatments such as isoniazid and rifampin. With this treatment almost half of XDR-TB patients and 67% of MDR-TB patients had treatment cure or completion.
New research with mice proved that doses of vitamin C given intravenous could reduce the size of cancerous tumors in people. The findings are not proved in humans yet, but the combination with other drugs may cure cancer, the researchers said.
Vitamin C has been one of the most respected of all vitamins, and it is used to treat many ills, from colds to heart disease. But scientists are working hard to prove that it also can cure cancer.

A study compared the effectiveness of naltrexone (a standard treatment for heroin addiction), buprenorphine and placebo in treating drug addiction. The U.S researchers proved that Buprenorphine helps heroin addicts to stay clean for more number of days compared to other treatments. According to the study, buprenorphine performed best in maintenance of heroin abstinence, prevention of relapse, and reduction of HIV risk behavior of patients.
