What are fault lines?
Fault lines are breaks in the Earth’s crust where pressure is created as the two sides of the break rub against each other. This pressure is sometimes released in an earthquake. Earthquakes are caused by energy release during rapid slippage along a fault. A fault which runs along the boundary between two tectonic plates is called a transform fault.
The New Madrid Seismic Zone, also known as the Reelfoot Rift or the New Madrid Fault Line, is a major seismic zone in the Southern and Midwestern United States stretching to the southwest from New Madrid, Missouri. The New Madrid fault system was responsible for the 1812 New Madrid Earthquake and has the potential to produce damaging earthquakes on an average of every 300 to 500 years. The images shows the San Andreas Fault, a right-lateral strike-slip fault;it caused the massive 1906 San Francisco Earthquake.
The epicenter of the 2008 Illinois earthquake in US was located in the Wabash Valley Seismic Zone, which is adjacent to the New Madrid Seismic Zone.

Leak Found in Earth’s Atmosphere
ESA’s formation-flying quartet of satellites, Cluster, has discovered that Earth’s atmosphere is constantly leaking Oxygen into Space. Charged oxygen ions, flowing outwards from the polar regions into space. The data collected by Cluster from 2001 to 2003 is used to find the phenomenon. Compared to the Earth’s stock of the life-supporting gas, the amount escaping is negligible.

New Habitat Inside Earth
Researchers have discovered a unique star shaped bacterium living 1.7 km below the Earth’s surface. This bacteria was discovered in South African platinum mine. There are many types of unknown species live in the deep subsurface of Earth, but large scale drilling projects needed to discover them. With the help of ultra-deep mines of South Africa, researchers are getting a glimpse into this unique habitat. Scientists from the University of Western Ontario and Princeton University have gained access to many previously undiscovered microbial communities in South African Northam Platinum mine.

Seals’ Navigation aid: Stars
Seals can orient themselves and navigate to some degree using the stars as a guide, according to a research by University of Southern Denmark. Researchers have discovered that seals have the ability to recognize stars and groups of stars inside a modified planetarium. Humans used star navigation for centuries when sailing across the vast oceans. Bees use earth’s magnetic filed to navigate by.
New Planet “Super-Earths” Discovered
There are new planets called “super-Earths” have been identified by Astronomers, and announced at an astronomy conference in Nantes, France. These rocky planets are between two and 10 times the mass of Earth. The High Accuracy Radial velocity Planet Searcher called Harps instrument was used to detect these 3 new planets. They circle a star that is smaller than our Sun, and it is located 42 light-years away.

Last moments of Human
Renowned scientist Sir Martin Rees, a Royal Society Research Professor at Cambridge and Britain’s Astronomer Royal believes humans have only a 50% chance of making it through just the next century alone. In the book Our Final Hour
, Rees argues aside from climate change humans are still in far greater danger from the potential effects of modern technology and our own inexplicably destructive natures than we commonly realize. Rees seems to think that the man-made disasters like engineered viruses, nuclear terrorism, and even a take-over by super-intelligent machines, are just as significant, if not more, of a threat to our long-term survival.
Health And Moon Dust
Since lungs are a highly sensitive organ that delivers oxygen molecules through a thin membrane directly to the blood, researchers are concerned about astronauts’ health. Long term exposure to lunar dust will increase the dust particles go deeper into the lungs, and this could be lethal.
But researchers are unsure about the consequences, so they have designed lunar bases to get more information on particle size, gravity and deposition rate. This could benefits for healthcare on Earth, such as improved delivery of aerosol medications to the lungs.
An explsion older than earth still visible
Gamma ray bursts occur when huge stars use up all their fuel and their core collapses, forming black holes or neutron stars. A brightest cosmic explosion has been detected by NASA 7.5 billion light years away. That means it occurred before Earth was formed. The explosion was seen last Wednesday without any visual aid.
