Ancient Egyptian City Unearthed

Mount SinaiA 3,000-year-old remains from an ancient fortified city, the largest yet found in Egypt, has been unearthed while archaeologists exploring an old military road in the Sinai. The fort had been Egypt’s military headquarters from the New Kingdom (1569-1081 B.C.) until the Ptolemaic era. A relief of King Thutmose II (1516-1504 B.C.),also discovered at the site.

Bread Crisis

EgyptAcute shortages of subsidized bread, which is sold at less than one U.S. cent a loaf, have caused hours-long lines and violence at some sites in poor neighborhoods in Egypt. Unsubsidized bread sells 10 to 12 times the subsidized price. According to police, at least seven people have died in the clashes. Egypt has a population of 80 million with 71% literacy rate.
