Worldwide shipments of consumer-electronics devices capable of supporting Internet video are projected to rise by nearly a factor of five from 2009 to 2013, according to research firm iSuppli. The firm forecast that 376.5 million devices supporting Internet video will be shipped annually by 2013, up from 80.5 million in 2008. According to research conducted for Dell on the recycling habits of 5,000 consumers across the UK (1,000 respondents), France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, Germans are proving the savviest (80 per cent regularly recycle electronics). Consumer confusion around the recycling options available for old electronics has led to 50 per cent of UK consumers failing to correctly recycle old technology. China’s consumption of semiconductors grew by 23 percent last year. Electronics manufacturers in the Chinese market consumed more than one-third of semiconductors produced globally in 2007. The fact is revealed in a study by industry focused consultant PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). The study also noted that many of the largest semiconductor suppliers to the Chinese market are multinational companies.
