Research for a summit on the recession shows a leap in calls to a domestic abuse helpline in Wales. Around 14,000 calls have been made to the helpline since December, and 8,000 had not phoned before. According to research presented to the sixth all-Wales Economic Summit, financial difficulties could lead to more relationship break-ups. A new study has found the time per week that families interact as a group has fallen by nearly a third between 2005 and 2008. In a new survey from the Center for the Digital Future, researchers found that in 2008, 28% of people said that being wired has resulted in them spending less time with family members, a threefold increase from the 11% reported just two years ago, in 2006. The study found that parents who stay together for the sake of their kids can actually do them more harm than good. According to research published in The Observer today, children of parents who frequently argue do worse in school than those who come from secure single parent families. An interesting new study suggests families to dine together, in order to lead a healthy life. The study reveals that families who dine together encourage healthy eating habits among children. With the growing obesity rate among children, I think it should be one of the top priorities of parents.
According to the report from National Survey of Family Growth, men are more willing to adopt children compared to women. American men ages between 18- 44 are more than two times as likely as women in the same age group to have adopted a child. It showed that more than 1.2 million men and 613,000 women had adopted children. The reason for this difference could be partly due to men getting married and adopting their spouse’s children from a previous relationships. We all are designed to pass our gene to next generation, but this is a threat to our survival and fitness.
Couples who share a common great-great grandparents have more kids than other non-related couples. Married third cousins on average have one more child than distantly related couples.
