Film Exposing sexual exploitation of children Pulled from Thai Film Fest
Children of the Dark, a Japanese film about the trafficking and exploitation of children in Thailand has been pulled from the Bangkok Film Festival. Film Director Junji Sakamoto said in a statement that “This film must be shown (to) all of the world, especially in Thailand for the children’s future. To stop this film is the same as shutting children’s futures, also shutting the future in the country.” The feature film, shot in Thailand, follows foreigners who go to Thailand to have sex with children and the consequences for the children involved.
Abu Dhabi to Make Hollywood Films
The Gulf state is set out to become one of the largest film producers in the world with $1bn to invest in productions to be made in Hollywood. The investment will be provided by Abu Dabhi’s government. The first co-production partnerships would be announced within weeks. Abu Dhabi is the capital and second most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), after Dubai. The UAE’s per capita GDP is on par with those of leading West European nations.
Dark Knight Arrested.
The “Dark Knight” star Christian Bale was arrested in London after allegedly assaulting his sister and mother. His mother and sister brought the accusations to the Hampshire police station. After being held for more than four hours, Bale was released on the condition that he returns to the station at an unspecified date in September. The film Dark Knight raked in 158.4 million dollars, breaking the previous North American box-office opening record of 151.1 million held by “Spider-Man 3″.
Sharon Stone is not welcome in film festival
Hollywood actress Sharon Stone sparked outrage across China earlier when she commented that last month’s devastating earthquake in the Sichuan region might be “karma” for the country’s treatment of Tibet. A spokeswoman for the Shanghai International Film Festival said that the U.S. actress is not welcome at this year’s event. The actress later apologized for her comments.
‘Shanghai’,Movie production leave China
After Chinese authorities objected to the script, producers of the American movie Shanghai have pulled the project out of China. $3 million US had been spent already by The Weinstein Company to build sets in China. The movie will relocate shooting to Thailand and Britain. The movie is about an American who investigates his friend’s death in the Second World War-era, Japanese-occupied Shanghai.
