Canadian researchers have uncovered a vast electronic spying operation that infiltrated computers and stole documents from government and private offices around the world, including those of the Dalai Lama. When its come to online security there is one more thing you need to worry about. Google Gadgets!. According to SecTheory a security consultancy firm,Google gadgets can be forcibly installed and can be used to phishing purposes. The potential impact of these attacks is through cookie theft, or theft of confidential and sensitive information from the Gadget or user. Its also revealed by the firm that a malicious webpage can add a Gadget to a user’s iGoogle homepage without his knowledge and assist in the spread of gadget-based malware. Google gadgets are miniature objects that offer useful and dynamic content which can be placed in personalized Google homepages. Its not known whether these kind of attacks can be prevented by Anti virus programs.
IT security and control firm Sophos has warned users of Facebook to exercise care, following an attempt by hackers to infect computers by spreading messages containing malicious links on the popular social networking website. The recent attack comes in the form of Wall Messages left on Facebook users’ to view a video, but clicking on the link takes users to a site which urges them to download a file to watch the movie. Sophos says it detects the executable file as the Troj/Dloadr-BPL Trojan horse, which in turn downloads further malicious code (detected as Troj/Agent-HJX), and displays an innocent image of a court jester sticking his tongue out.
Titan Rain was the U.S. government’s designation given to a series of coordinated attacks on American computer systems. Titan Rain hackers gained access to many U.S. computer networks, including those at Lockheed Martin, Sandia National Laboratories, Redstone Arsenal, and NASA. At the International Crime Science Conference held in London, UK security expert, John Walker, CTO of forensics consultancy Secure-Bastion, said that the Chinese government was behind the ‘Titan Rain’ attacks. The academic made his comments during a Q&A session when he was asked about state-sponsored terrorism. The attacks were identified as coming from servers in China, but the Chinese government has never officially been accused of being behind the assault. The International Crime Science Conference is organised by the Centre for Security and Crime Science at University College London.

A new tool has been released by the hacking group Cult of the Dead that turns Google into a vulnerability exposer. The tool is called Goolag and is available as an open source software. The tool is a stand-alone Windows .Net application with an easy-to-use graphical interface. The Cult of the Dead Cow is best known for its Back Orifice software, which could be used to remotely control a Windows machine.
