Gay rights activists in India say a ruling by the Delhi High Court decriminalising homosexuality in the country is a landmark. The judgement overturns a 148-year-old colonial law which described a same-sex relationship as an “unnatural offence”. Homosexual acts were punishable by a 10-year prison sentence. UN: Islamic law is major influence on refugee law

France Passes “Three Strikes” Anti-Piracy Law

eifel-towerIn an attempt to reduce piracy, the French have passed a new law requiring Internet service providers to cut off Internet access for repeat copyright infringers. Under the new ‘HADOPI’ legislation ISPs have to warn their customers twice that they are accused of infringing copyright. If both warnings are ignored, Internet access for that subscriber will be terminated for up to a year - and they’ll have to keep paying their ISP bill throughout this period too. Palin repimanded over abuse of power as Alaska governor

JusticeAn Alaska ethics report has concluded that Republican Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, abused her power as governor when firing a state official. Alaska governor was accused of pressuring the official to fire her former brother-in-law and then firing the official when he refused.
