Windows XP ATM’s Under Hacker Attacks in Europe

atmThere have been approximately 20 ATM’s in Eastern Europe that have been compromised. These attacks are in the early stages of development and would probably gain momentum and even spread to US ATM machines. A security outfit, TrustWave’s SpiderLabs performed the analysis of malware found installed on compromised ATMs in the Eastern European region. The ATM’s that were compromised ran Microsoft Windows XP. The malware captures magnetic stripe data and PIN codes from the private memory space of transaction-processing applications installed on infected ATM. Full Story : PhysOrg.com….

Panda Launches Cloud AntiVirus

Panda has released a free anti-Virus offering that resides mostly off the host system and in the cloud. Using ‘Collective Intelligence’, along with distributed computing and a global and community-based platform, Panda has said this new offering is entirely different from what it’s created in the past. Botnet master hits the kill switch, takes down 100,000 PCs

pc-bluescreenZeus/Zbot is a software kit that sprung up in March that harvests financial and personal data from PCs through the use of a Trojan. Zeus, unlike many other malware programs, managed to make each installation appear different to virus trackers so that it would be more difficult to remove. But Zeus had another interesting feature—one that isn’t terribly uncommon among botnet software, it turns out. Symantec Warns of Worm’s Return

A third version of Downadup worm has been identified by Symantec. The new version gives infected machines more powerful instructions to disable antivirus software and analysis tools. The W32 Downadup.C variant was discovered Friday in a Symantec honeypot and is still under investigation.

Samsung Picture FrameSamsung says its XP version of Frame Manager 1.08 software contains the virus W32.Sality.AE. The virus reaches the computer when the Frame Manager is installed on a PC. The virus doesn’t affect Vista PCs. Samsung encourages users to download and install the updated version of Frame Manager XP software available here. Most of the anti virus software detect W32.Sality.AE.

The latest report says, Chinese computer users are the major targets of online attackers. According to SecTheory a security consultancy firm,Google gadgets can be forcibly installed and can be used to phishing purposes. The potential impact of these attacks is through cookie theft, or theft of confidential and sensitive information from the Gadget or user. Its also revealed by the firm that a malicious webpage can add a Gadget to a user’s iGoogle homepage without his knowledge and assist in the spread of gadget-based malware. Google gadgets are miniature objects that offer useful and dynamic content which can be placed in personalized Google homepages. Its not known whether these kind of attacks can be prevented by Anti virus programs.

Malware “court jester” attacks Facebook

Court JesterIT security and control firm Sophos has warned users of Facebook to exercise care, following an attempt by hackers to infect computers by spreading messages containing malicious links on the popular social networking website. The recent attack comes in the form of Wall Messages left on Facebook users’ to view a video, but clicking on the link takes users to a site which urges them to download a file to watch the movie. Sophos says it detects the executable file as the Troj/Dloadr-BPL Trojan horse, which in turn downloads further malicious code (detected as Troj/Agent-HJX), and displays an innocent image of a court jester sticking his tongue out.
