Taliban’s influence rising in Afghanistan, Study says

Muslim prisoners get their own cells after sharing row

IslamA prison has agreed to give Muslims their own cells after they complained about sharing with other inmates. They were said to be unhappy at praying and eating near non-Muslims at Birmingham‚Äôs Winson Green jail. It is thought to be the first time inmates have been segregated by religion. Prison bosses have decided to place them with other Muslims, or give them single cells when space is available. There has also been concern among the 200-strong Muslim contingent in Winson Green about the halal meat served there. US Muslims: A thriving society

IslamA report released by Gallup revealed that US Muslims are one of the highly successful groups in America. Muslim Americans, for instance, are among the most highly educated religious groups in the US, second to Jews. The report also say that 43 percent of  Muslim-American women hold a college or postgraduate degree, compared with 29 percent of US women overall. Thirty-eight percent of Muslims describe themselves as moderate, with 29 percent saying they are liberal and 25 percent conservative. But they express less satisfaction with community life and a greater sense of worry and stress than other Americans.

Quran The Book of Signs Foundation,Addison-based Muslim organization has distributed more than 70,000 free English Qurans to homes in the Chicago area and another 30,000 around Houston. The book includes a phone number where people can leave a message if they have questions or comments. The group hopes people will find understanding in the holy book, ditch common misconceptions. But the Book of Signs’ long-term goal is particularly ambitious: that each household in the U.S. possess a Quran, even if the residents are not Muslims. Muslims believe the Quran to be the word of God revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. Islam was founded by Muhammad around 622 A.D.
