Facebook Policies Open For User Vote

voteFacebook is putting its site regulations and privacy policies in the hands of its users. Facebook CEO Zuckerberg said that the company is seeking user comment on two documents posted on Facebook. One, called Facebook Principles, is set up to define user rights and ultimately serve as a template for future policies. The second document, Facebook’s new Statement of Rights and Responsibilities, will ultimately replace the company’s Terms of Service.Facebook has an active 175 million registered users.

Facebook goes back to old content rules

FacebookAfter receiving widespread backlash from users, Facebook decided to roll back its Terms of Service to the old one. The revised terms of service which was put in place on Feb. 2, claims “an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, fully paid, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense)” on the contents users put on the Facebook even after they closed their account. CEO Zuckerberg promised that Facebook users “will have a lot of input” in crafting the new terms.

New Facebook TOS : Privacy at risk

facebookUnder the license section of the new TOS that Facebook quietly changed on Feb. 4., Facebook said that by agreeing to the terms, users “grant Facebook an irrevocable, perpetual, nonexclusive, transferable, worldwide license to use, copy, publish, stream, store, retain and distribute any user content you post.” According to the license, Facebook can “use your name, likeness and image for any purpose, including commercial or advertising. Facebook will be entitled to the unrestricted use of any such submission for any purpose, commercial or otherwise, without acknowledgment or compensation to you.”. Its a wake up call for read the terms of service online before click the sign up button.

Palin’s Yahoo Mail Hacked and Published

Sarah PalinU.S. vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s Yahoo account gets hacked and of its contents are reportedly published on the Wikileaks Web site. A hacking group known as Anonymous gained access to Palin’s Yahoo account late Tuesday night and sent the information to Wikileaks. “Governor Palin has come under criticism for using private e-mail accounts to conduct government business and in the process avoid transparency laws,” Wikileaks wrote in a note.

Hidden Date of Birth exposed in Facebook

Facebook A test run of new design by Facebook left the members’ hidden birth date information exposed. Earlier this month the full dates of birth of many of Facebook’s 80 million active users were visible to others. The flaw appeared to be fixed now. The flaw was first detected by Sophos, a world leader in IT security. Sophos has published a video, demonstrating the security hole:
