People of higher socioeconomic status choose better diets

As people become more educated, studies have demonstrated that they tend to choose foods that are lower in calories but higher in nutrients. Diets of low energy density and high nutrient content have been associated with less weight gain and with lower rates of obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some forms of cancer. Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway falls to 5-1/2-yr low

Shares of Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc sank to their lowest level in 5-1/2 years amid concern the insurance and investment company could suffer big losses from bets on world stock markets and US banks. Buffett was ranked by Forbes as the richest person in the world during the first half of 2008, with an estimated net worth of $62.0 billion. In June 2006, Buffett gave approximately 10 million Berkshire Hathaway Class B shares to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (worth approximately USD 30.7 billion as of 23rd June 2006) making it the largest charitable donation in history.

A consumer research by CMS Inc. revealed that middle- to upper-class white shoppers are the biggest users of coupons. Coupon use increase with consumer education level, users with Bachelor’s and Master’s degree use coupons a lot. Also households with incomes of $150,000 or more use coupons regularly. In 2007 alone 302 billion coupons offered by manufactures, at an average face value of $1.28 each. Less than 1 percent of them redeemed. Thomas Stanley author of Best seller “The Millionaire Next Door” found that  “being frugal is the cornerstone of wealth-building.”

Bill Gates goes to third

Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft who have held the top spot for the previous 13 years in the Forbes magazine’s list of the World’s Billionaires slipped to third place this year. Investor Warren Buffet and Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim Helu has taken the first and second places respectively. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is listed as the youngest billionaire. The 1,125 individuals made it into Forbes’ 2008 list of billionaires worth $4.4 trillion in total .
