Sophos: Social networking sites must improve security

PhishingSecurity firm Sophos, in their latest Security Threat Report, says that recent trends all point to the same thing; criminals are targeting social networking sites. As social portals like Twitter, Facebook , MySpace, and LinkedIn have grown in popularity, so have the attacks on their users. Security Flaw in Internet Explorer

Internet ExplorerSecurity experts warned computer users not to use Microsoft’s Internet Explorer until a security flaw in the browser is fixed. The security flow in the browser could be exploited by criminals to take control of computers and steal passwords. Microsoft says it has detected attacks against IE 7.0 but said the “vulnerability” was present in all versions of the browser. Internet Explorer is used by around 70% of the internet users. Facebook Israeli security officials are not allowed anymore to publish confidential information on Facebook because it may become available to all the people who surf the Internet. A new list of rules announced by Defense Ministry on Israel aims to prevent soldiers and employees from revealing classified information on social networking sites. The officials say some soldiers have uploaded pictures of themselves with classified equipment, inadvertently revealing sensitive information.

Gun through XRayThe new technology, known as the T5000 system developed by ThruVision can see through people’s clothing at distances of up to 80ft. The new system has attracted interest from law enforcement agencies in the hope of detecting weapons, drugs and explosives. The system works by detecting and measuring terahertz waves, or T-waves- an electromagnetic radiation, emitted by all people and objects that lie between the infrared and microwave parts of the spectrum.

The tool is a stand-alone Windows .Net application with an easy-to-use graphical interface. The Cult of the Dead Cow is best known for its Back Orifice software, which could be used to remotely control a Windows machine.
