Yahoo Internet TVWorldwide shipments of consumer-electronics devices capable of supporting Internet video are projected to rise by nearly a factor of five from 2009 to 2013, according to research firm iSuppli. The firm forecast that 376.5 million devices supporting Internet video will be shipped annually by 2013, up from 80.5 million in 2008. Children who view adult-targeted TV may become sexually active earlier in life

Digital television (DTV) is the sending and receiving of moving images and sound by discrete (digital) signals, in contrast to the analog signals used by analog TV. The first country to make a wholesale switch to Digital Over-the-Air (terrestrial) broadcasting was the Netherlands, in 2006. This was followed by Finland and Sweden in 2007.

The symptoms of depression, young people have developed in their 20s was directly related with the number of hours of exposure to television and other electronic media in their teens. The same association was found for exposure to other electronic media, the researchers noted. Isn’t it what they call reaping what you sow?

Sony’s Latest OLED TV Only 1 Millimeter Thin

Sony oledOLED, Organic Light Emitting Diode. A new type of viewing screen. Can be viewed in bright lighting conditions, at greater angles, unlike LCD’s. It uses an organic material that emits its own light, so no back light is neede. Sony has unveiled a prototype OLED (organic light emitting diode) television at the Ceatec 2008 electronics expo in Japan. The TV measures just 0.9mm.

Microsoft buys television ad Firm Navic

microsoft-logo.pngNavic developed a technology to deliver interactive ads on Television. Their ads are interactive overlays targeted by zip code to each cable subscriber. Microsoft Corp says it has purchased Navic Networks. Navic will join Microsoft’s Advertiser and Publisher Solutions (APS) Group, which is responsible for its digital media advertising platform. Google has already got into TV ads market through it AdWords program.

Future of Rear projection TVs.

tvsets.pngRear projection TV sales are on the decline. Market research studies show that in 2009, less than 1 percent of the TVs sold will be rear-projection sets. While Sony and Philips got out of that sector, Texas Instruments looking for ways to attract consumers from LCD TVs and Plasmas. It has developed a lightweight prototype set that is less than 7 inches deep to mimic the “hang on the wall” concept of LCDs. At the Consumer Electronics Show last week, the company displayed smaller chips that TV makers could use to create slimmer sets with brighter, high-contrast pictures and smoother motion in the images. It also showed — behind closed doors — projectors tiny enough to fit in a cellphone.
