US Joint Chiefs of Staff announced Saturday that the number of US forces in Afghanistan will be doubled soon. There are presently approximately 31,000 US troops in the country. Overall, there are more than 60,000 foreign troops in Afghanistan. Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) is the official name used by the U.S. Government to the war in Afghanistan. 629 US soldiers have been killed in the operation since the war begun.
