Changing face of Canada
According to a new census data released by Statistics Canada, visible minorities now comprise more than 16 per cent of the total population of Canada. South Asians, (India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka), now slightly outnumber the Chinese, who were identified as the top visible minority group in 2001. Visible minorities have surpassed the five million mark this year. According to Employment Equity Act, Canada, visible minorities are defined as persons other than Aboriginal peoples who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in color.
