A new body scanner being tested in Australian airports, is reported to be a virtual strip search. It is possible to see private parts while people are going through the machine. However to protect the privacy of the passengers,official promised that faces will be blurred in the image.

The new technology, known as the T5000 system developed by ThruVision can see through people’s clothing at distances of up to 80ft. The new system has attracted interest from law enforcement agencies in the hope of detecting weapons, drugs and explosives. The system works by detecting and measuring terahertz waves, or T-waves- an electromagnetic radiation, emitted by all people and objects that lie between the infrared and microwave parts of the spectrum.
